On species status of Carex sordida (Cyperaceae)

This article deals with the problem of species independence Carex sordida. Closely related sect. Carex, C. sordida, atherodes, and drymophila, were analyzed based on material from Asian Russia. Based morphological characteristics, it was suggested that sordida is more closely to atherodes than drymophila. Molecular analysis using matK plastid gene ITS2 ETS nuclear ribosomal spacers confirmed a distinct atherodes. Several specimens hybrid origin among studied found. During revision herbarium samples, several new localities identified, which significantly expanded its range west. In this study, for first time, distribution maps in part Russia published.
